2nd Members' Day

St Ives Cambridgeshire
Sunday 9th March 2003

Baby-Benz members organised a Members' Day hosted by club member Mark Sillett in St. Ives following discussions in the site chat room.
Some members felt that they could not wait for the National Online Meeting (NOM) which is planned for later on in the year.

The day was relatively successful bearing in mind members gave up their valuable spare time, and 5 cars turned up on what was a sunny but very windy day! The event helped pave the way for a further MM which is to be held in Chester on 31st May 2003 (further details will be added to the Event section later this month)
Site Administrator/Webmaster & Club Founder Steve Brown, Mark Sillett, Gary & Alliey Sivewright, John & Lynne Holmes (including their very well behaved family) and David Cross met up to gain a club record, and possible 'World Record' for the highest number of 'A' class cars to congregate in any one area at the same time!

Steve very kindly donated a prize for the best turned out car on the day, which was deservedly won by Gary & Alliey's silver 190 Avantguard.

David's Vaneo was well scrutinised by us all, and they are quite a large vehicle! Loads of interior space and some natty features like electrically driven vent windows! and built in child seats! We worked out that the Vaneo is around 430lb heavier than the standard 'A' class!
The event waited for one other member to turn up!, but TOPH (Christopher) forgot to wind his watch up, so he and his laptop sadly missed the occasion!

After much mutual admiration was given/received whilst inspecting each others cars the matter of lunch came to the fore! But alas the 'organised' Pub Lunch we were all looking forward to did not materialise do to the fact that Mark assumed the Dolphin Hotel bar menu would be available all day! Having said that we did find a very nice Café close to the car park and enjoyed a light lunch prior to saying our goodbyes and preparing to travel home.

All in all, the day went very well, albeit too quickly which concluded that the next MM at the end of May, to be hosted by Steve Brown, should include an optional overnight stay to allow for more time to chat to each other and break up the driving to and from the event.

If any of you are reluctant to attend an event my advice is 'Don't Be' we all have something in common 'The Baby Benz' and we don't bite, so please do not have any preconceived ideas.

PS. Steve is currently looking for a volunteer to organise a event in the Scottish Borders area and can be contacted through the contact us link.
Mark Sillett
